For Unto Us a Child Is Born !

Once again it is Christmas time. A time which was originally set apart to remember that: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (KJV: John 3:16-17)

How much time have we, you and I, reflected on this the first gift of Christmas this year — the child of Bethlehem? Has He been the focus of our attention or has it been the commercialization of the season that has been the center of our attention — the shopping, the parties, Santa?

Do we listen with our hearts as we sing: “Joy to the World! The Lord is come: Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room.” Or do we behave like a Bethlehem innkeeper and have no room for Him who came to give us life eternal ! No room for Him in our hearts or in our lives as day by day we journey along through life.

Our Lord and Savior, whose birth we celebrate at this time of year, came to provide salvation for all of Heavenly Father’s children. This was and is the first gift of Christmas, but before we entered this earth life, our Heavenly Father also gave each of us, His children, the gift of moral agency. Moral agency – the right to choose for ourselves. It is an eternal truth that our Heavenly Father will not force any of His children to return to Him. He has provide the way through the universal gift of His only begotten Son, but we, each of us, must individually choose to receive His gift. He will not force us to accept it.

It is my prayer on this Sabbath day, that we will truly remember the atoning sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and that we will keep Christmas throughout the coming year by doing as He did. That we will go about doing good by serving those around us and more particularly those of our own home and family. It is then that we will truly demonstrate to our Heavenly Father that we have received His gift and found room for the Christ in our hearts and lives. It is then that we will show Heavenly Father and the world that:

Jesus is the Reason for the Season !
