The First Christmas Story

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. (Luke 2:19)

When Jesus was little, he sat at the knee
Of Mary, his mother, and asked fervently
“Tell me, Dear Mother, of my birthday again
Of shepherds and angels and three wise men.”

Mary told Jesus the first Christmas story
How angels had sung on that night filled with glory
Rich men and poor men rejoiced at the start
And Mary kept all of these things in her heart

Mary spoke softly as if in a prayer
She told how the angels had led shepherds there
They all had come kneeling to see where he lay
And to worship a babe on that first Christmas day

Jesus would listen how kings from afar
Had followed the light of Bethlehem’s star
And the first Christmas presents, they brought to give
To honor his gift that all men might live

Jesus grew up – our Savior, our Lord
But he always remembered the things that he’d heard
